The Soviet infantry are also getting hammered by the German mortars, 1d6+2 vs infantry, while the T34 is getting roughed up by the PZIV and the supporting infantry.īut the Jerry tank is KOed by the T34 and AT gun, while Soviets rush over the bridge. For example, infantry vs tank roll 1d6 -2. Each shooting unit rolls a dice and adds or subtracts modifiers, thus generating the number of hits. That gun looks suspiciously like it belongs in the Fall of Berlin, not out by this lovely stream. Notice my brave Naval Infantry leading the way. Russian AT gun moves up to the stream, while infantry rush across the bridge. Three Russian infantry groups in the open, and one in the woods top right. Here the Russian tank has reached the ford, while the AT gun approaches the bridge.
Because I was using a bigger table than the 3’ by 3’ that OHW calls for, I doubled the movement and range distances. Blue (German) get 1 tank, 1 mortary, and four infantry. For them I rolled 1 tank 1 AT gun, and four infantry. I added some fields because the poor old table looked so naked.įor this battle I decided that my 20mm WW2 kit would make a nice change from the medieval battle I tried last time with OHW. Besides the river with the two crossing points, the only terrain items Neil calls for are a hill SW and a forest NE. The objective at the end of fifteen turns is for one side to control both the bridge and the ford. Red and Blue both get six units, determined randomly. I tried an early scenario (#4, I think) where both Red and Blue start off the board, with a river in the middle. The executive summary of my thoughts as processed through my many biases: great scenarios, but only ok games. PG audiences, NSFW, maybe the boss wouldn’t understand.I’ve had my second chance to take Neil Thomas' One Hour Wargames out for a test drive. High RPM engines roaring in your skull nerves wired and ready for action, don’t wait for it, oh now, don’t wait or you’ll come in dead last. Right now I want to write the back-stories of everyone.Ī little Post-Script flavor enhancement. Nine cars, yeah, nine is a good number that’ll be enough.įunny how a game turbo-boosts the imagination. I have designs for other cars, for example, one sponsored by Gobbos of Hate, a second, buffed by Dust Bunnies, and number 665 1/2 exorcised by the standup comic Alive 2 Drive. Risin’ to the occasion Tora-Tora Hud-San built and christened in sake by Kamikaze Dukes.įlamin’ Fatality “to turbo or not turbo that is the question.” This car is the latest design that survived testing from Street Cretins. So my pals and I can have the full juice extreme death race fun I have designed (used loosely) six vehicles because, hey, a game like this has got to be visual and tactile.
The old thing will have twin Hotchkiss machineguns, a ram, and all the needful things for survival on the hot treacherous race course as drivers swap paint and a few rounds of high explosive armor piercing. Now the Hot-Kiss Chevy beginning conversion: Probably 90cm x 90cm (sorta 3′ x 3′) I just gotta do it, it’s for the Wasted Lands. I will design my own Machinas race game board for grins and rumbles. The Chevy is in the shop being mauled and overhauled. In my situation I am fortunate to have a local game store owner who’ll help me order Machinas™ which makes me happy to fuel up my (Hotchkiss) Hot-Kiss Chevy and squeeze into my driving gloves. Here’s a Youtube vid of Ed’s demo here, straight from the Man: What I have seen on the THW site, Youtube, and various blogs THW has a beautifully designed and visually detailed game, yet true to Ed Teixeira’s genius, very easy to learn and to play compelling, just so cool. Confession: my copy of Machinas™ hasn’t been ordered yet, taking care of that today. I’m looking forward to turning the colorful cards and tossing dice around the table creating dust and fumes with my friends. A player may use cards, card-stock cut-outs, or as I intend, model vehicles. Using the game components, players move vehicle cards for white-knuckle renditions of battle-racers expelled from the scrap yards of survivor settlements and the detritus of the previous latest-and-greatest civilization’s boneyards. Two Hour Wargames ( THW) has a game set known as Machinas™ for racing in the post-apocalyptic Wasteland (apologies to T.S.
